Symposium: Strategic planning for water sustainability

On Thursday 6 March, the Institute hosts the Symposium Cities of the Future-Strategic Planning for Water Sustainability’.

Organised by the SWITCH project, the full-day programme offers presentations on urban planning practices in cities such Hamburg (Germany), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Belo Horizonte (Brazil) or Yafo Tel Aviv (Israel).

In the afternoon, working groups will discuss 10 success factors for strategic water plan development, the way water science can increase its applicability in the cities and the concept of ‘complete sustainability’.

John Jacobs, from the municipality of Rotterdam points that urban water management is one of the main instruments in adapting to climate change. “By solving the water problems we will be able to add an extra value to the public space and thus improve the quality of the urban environment.”
