Biswa Bhattacharya, joined as a senior lecturer the Hydroinformatics and Knowledge Management Department in 2005 after he graduated for his PhD with his thesis "Learning from data for Aquatic and Geotechnical Environment". He also holds a MSc degree in Hydroinformatics (with Distinction) from the same UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from Bengal Engineering and Science University, India. In 2007 he promoted to Programme Coordinator of Hydroinformatics.
Prior to his PhD, he was engaged in numerical modeling of river engineering in a number of research projects. Subsequently, he worked on the so-called hybrid modeling where the benefits of numerical and data-driven modeling were combined. His research interests include flood risk management, flood mapping, coastal flooding, coastal modeling using numerical, data-driven and hybrid modeling. His teaching modules are:
- Flood risk management
- Hydrological modelling
- Flood modelling for management (online course)
- Data-driven modelling
- Software engineering
He wrote several publications, journal papers, conference proceedings and chapters in books. He is coordinating the pan-European Erasmus Mundus MSc in Flood Risk Management.
