Dr Erik de Ruyter van Steveninck is currently Senior Lecturer in Aquatic and Marine Ecology at IHE, Delft, Department of Environmental Science and Water Resources.
He is responsible for research and training in (tropical) aquatic and marine ecology and in watershed and coastal zone management. His main research activities take place in the research line 'Functioning and management of coastal and freshwater ecosystems'.
Erik de Ruyter van Steveninck has extensive experience with research in tropical marine areas. He has carried out a number of projects in coral reefs in the Caribbean and is presently involved in two research projects in the Philippines. One on the functioning of seagrass ecosystems and one on the effects of sedimentation on coral reefs.
From 1996-1998, Erik de Ruyter van Steveninck was responsible for the Masters Course on Environmental Science and Technology as course leader. This international course is directed specifically towards the needs of professionals from developing countries to address complex environmental issues.
He has been involved in a number of short training courses, two of which have been organised in SE Asia (Environmental impacts: assessment, monitoring, control in Thailand and Integrated watershed management for sustainable development in the Philippines).
As training specialist he developed local and overseas training programmes for the ADB-funded project on Marine Resources and Environmental Planning in Indonesia. In February/March, 1997, he will further contribute to this project by developing a marine and coastal zone planning and management simulation model.
