Krishna Prasad

Krishna C. Prasad, born in Janakpur, Nepal, in 1962 works at UNESCO-IHE in Delft, Netherlands as a Senior Lecturer in Land and Water Development. He has BSc (Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, India, 1986), MSc (University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, USA, 2001), PhD (University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, USA, 2004), all in Civil Engineering, and MA (Colorado State University, Fort Collins, USA, 1994) in Sociology with specialization in water resources.

He has nearly 21 years of professional experience largely in Nepal, India, USA, South Africa, and Ethiopia. He has extensive field level practical experience, including in research and training in areas of improving performance of irrigation, developing farmers’ organizations, participatory irrigation and water management, and related policies and institutions. Before joining UNESCO-IHE, he worked with Department of Irrigation, Nepal for 12 years since 1986, and then with International Water Management Institute for 7 years.

In recent years, his work has focused on decision support systems for planning and managing water resources at river basin level to match hydrological objectives with social and economic policy objectives. Centered on the discipline of irrigation and river basin management, his interest areas include: improving agricultural water productivity, participatory irrigation development and management, integrated river basin management, and related policies and institutions.

His personal interests are philanthropy, social networking, travel, and sports.
