Vision and Mission

The approach spans local solutions to environmental problems, to the effects of national policies on the local, regional and global environment. The aim is to facilitate the development of the knowledge and skills necessary for ensuring the wise use of the precious freshwater, coastal and marine resources.

The overall theme of the work of the department is environmental integrity. Human activities and socio-economic developments depend on, interact with and impact upon environmental resources. The interplay between them is the key to sustainable development.

The department considers specific natural and technological processes, and the functioning of ecological systems, from river basins, wetlands and coastal systems to urban centres, industrial processes and wastewater treatment plants.
