The registration for the UNESCO-IHE online courses is now open. You can register for one of the Institutes online courses and enjoy keeping up-to-date with the latest developments or discussing the coming challenges in your field with fellow professionals.

On July 3rd, 2008 Mr. Roberto Valencia Vázquez successfully defended his PhD thesis and propositions on Enhanced stabilisation of municipal solid waste in bioreactor landfills. Professor Huub Gijzen was his promotor, and Henk Lubberding, PhD, his co-promotor.

The Minister of Public Works of Indonesia, Mr. Ir. Djoko Kirmanto visited UNESCO-IHE on June the 24. Mr. Kirmanto, himself an alumnus of the Institute, was welcome by the deputy director Ir. Joop de Schutter.

UNESCO-IHE and the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) in Japan have signed a cooperation agreement to collaborate in research and training of professionals.

During its annual meeting, UNESCO-IHP approved the creation of a Tertiary Water Education Grants programme to support the education of water professionals.

UNESCO-IHE presented its research activities on environmental impact assessment at a conference organised by the International Association of Impact Assessment in Australia in May. The Institute was awarded the prize to the best poster presentation.

On the occasion of the Inaugural Address of Professor Dimitri Solomatine and the Valedictory address of Professor Roland Price, UNESCO-IHE organised a 1-day Symposium “Hydroinformatics in Transition”. It took place in Delft on Friday 16th May 2008 at UNESCO-IHE.

The Awarding and Closing Ceremony for the Academic year of 2006-2008, which took place on Thursday 24 April 2008 at Theatre De Veste in Delft, was an opportunity to look back at events from the last 18 months.
