Dr. Ranasinghe joined UNESCO-IHE in January 2008. He obtained his B.Sc. Eng (1st class Hons) in civil engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 1993 and his PhD in Coastal Engineering and Oceanography from the University of Western Australia. Since then Dr. Ranasinghe has worked in the University and Government sectors in Australia, USA and Europe. His main research interests are medium to long term nearshore morphodynamics, coastal zone management and climate change impacts on coastlines. He has also used diverse research tools such as 1D, 2DH and 3D Numerical modelling, ARGUS video imaging and Field experiments. Over the last 15 years, Dr. Ranasinghe has published over 50 scientific articles which also include invited reviews and book chapters. He is currently a member of several steering committees on climate change impacts studies in Australia and has also been recently invited to join the Australian National Committee on Coastal and Ocean Engineering. Dr. Ranasinghe has long standing and strong links with Universities of Sydney, Queensland and New South Wales (Australia), CSIRO (Australia), University of Lund (Sweden), Danish Hydraulic Institute (Denmark), Oregon State University (USA).
