As part of an official visit to Uruguay, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, met students, governmental officials and representatives of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) in Montevideo on Thursday 13 September 2012.

Irina Bokova took part in the ceremony where five Uruguayan students received full scholarships to pursue a Master Program in Urban Water and Sanitation - Specialization in Sanitary Engineering - at the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education under the framework of the agreement between UNESCO-IHE and ANII.

This is the first batch of, in total, twelve sanitary engineering students who will study in Delft in the next three academic years.

As well as the Director-General and the students, Dr. Rodolfo Silveira (President of ANII), Mr. Ricardo Ehrlich (Minister of Education and Culture), Mr. Jorge Rucks (National Director of the Environment), and Dr. Hector Garcia (UNESCO-IHE) were present at the ceremony.
