On 8 May 2012, UNESCO-IHE officially bade farewell to Professor Bart Schultz who served the institute for almost 20 years and welcomed Charlotte de Fraiture who started her position of Professor of Land and Water Development in January 2012.
Professor Schultz' address was titled 'Land and Water Development. Finding a balance between planning, implementation, management and sustainability'. Professor de Fraiture's address was titled 'Water and Food Security in and insecure World'. Both addresses can be viewed online on this page.
The Valedictory and Inaugural Addresses were preceded by a symposium titled 'Land and Water Development in a rapidly changing setting', about land and water developments over the past decades and challenges lying ahead in this field.
Speakers included: Professor Nick van de Giesen, chairman of NETHCID, Professor Robiyanto Susanto of Sriwijaya University and Professor Linden Vincent of Wageningen University.
The Land and Water Development Chair Group group deals with the technology of adapting and managing land and water resources for specific forms of land use in rural, urban and industrial areas. Its activities focus on the development of rural areas and the topics of irrigation, drainage and flood protection.
