Piet Lens

Professor of Environmental Biotechnology



Resume

Dr.ir. Piet Lens is widely known for his groundbreaking work in the field of sulfur and metal biotechnology.

He has authored and co-authored over 135 scientific publications and 8 books. Besides, innovative research, he has also a strong commitment to capacity-building as organizer of multiple study-days, conferences and Euro Summer Schools. Dr. Lens trained in Environmental Sanitation, and then obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University Gent (Belgium).

From 1996 to 2006, he was Associate Professor at Wageningen University (The Netherlands). He is presently Professor Environmental Biotechnology and of the head Pollution Prevention and Control core at UNESCO-IHE, Delft (The Netherlands). Dr. Lens is Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journal "ReViews in Environmental Science and Bio/Technology" and is the Editor of the IWA Publishing series "Integrated Environmental Technology". Lens's honors include the IWA Publishing Award (2002) and a prestigious Marie Curies Excellence Grant (2004).
