Richard Meganck

Resume

Richard A. Meganck is the director of UNESCO-IHE. His career includes twenty-seven years working in international development and management of natural resources, twenty of those with agencies in the United Nations and Inter-American systems.

His most recent post with the Organization of American States was as the Director of Sustainable Development and Environment. In six years with the UN Environment Programme he was responsible for the Caribbean Regional Seas, Director to the 58-country Asia and the Pacific Region in Bangkok, and Director of the UN International Environment Technology Center in Osaka, Japan.

He began his professional career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia, followed by 4 years as an assistant professor in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University.

Dr. Meganck and his family have lived in seven nations in the Americas, Asia and Europe and he has undertaken more than 300 technical and administrative missions to 95 countries throughout the world. Dr. Meganck has published more than 70 journal articles, four books, and delivered in excess of 100 technical and representational speeches in his career. He holds BSc and MSc degrees from Michigan State University in Watershed Management and Resource Development Policy and a PhD from Oregon State University in Natural Resource Management.
