Associate Professor of Hydrogeology

Resume

Yangxiao Zhou received the BSc in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology from Hebei College of Geology, China in 1982.

After the graduation, he continued postgraduate study in Hydrogeology at Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and received the MSc with distinction in 1985 and PhD in 1988.

From July 1988 to June 1990, he participated in a joint hydrogeological research project as a visiting scholar at the Netherlands Institute of Applied Geosciences. He joined IHE as a lecturer/researcher since June 1990.

Dr. Zhou has broad research interests and extensive experiences in the design of groundwater monitoring networks with geostatistical methods and time series analysis, stochastic/deterministic modelling of groundwater flow/transport with Kalman filtering, and optimisation of groundwater system with mathematical programming.

He has developed several computer codes (KALMOD, FREQ, and NETGRAPH) and an author of more than 20 scientific publications. Dr. Zhou has supervised more than 10 MSc students and 3 PhD research fellows.

He has been lecturing on Hydrogeostatistics, Groundwater Monitoring, Contaminant Transport Modelling, Groundwater Flow and Applied Groundwater Modelling.

Dr. Zhou has also international experiences in postgraduate education and institution building projects. He was assigned as project manager for Sana'a University support project from January 1994 to June 1995.
