The
first six months of the Limnology and Wetland Ecosystems
Masters Programme are given at UNESCO-IHE in Delft; the
subsequent six months are given in Austria and Czech Republic.
The MSc research is given in one of the East African countries.
Since the start of the postgraduate programme in Environmental
Science (and Technology) at the UNESCO-IHE institute
in 1971, more than 1000 participants from 90 different
countries have graduated. Since the start of the International
Post-Graduate Training Course in Limnology in Austria
in 1975, more than 300 participants have attended. Alumni
from both programmes now function as senior professionals
in the environmental field, either in science, engineering
or management. The international cooperation between
UNESCO-IHE and the Austrian Academy of Sciences started
in 1997, which resulted in the joint specialisation
in Limnology and Wetland Ecosystems. Since then about
40 people have graduated from this joint programme.
Special Announcement
Online course
Wetlands for Water Quality - The
use of wetlands for wastewater treatment
Objectives of the course
Wetlands - both natural and constructed - are able to
purify water because of their ability to filter suspended
solids, to degrade organic substances and to take up
nutrients from the water. Wetlands also perform vital
functions in the water cycle and are important for flood
management, climate and biodiversity.
The main objective of this course is therefore to inform
participants on the proper way of using wetlands for
water treatment and water reclamation and to teach them
whether in a certain situation they should make use
of a natural wetland or a constructed wetland to treat
the water.
Target group
The course is designed for professionals actively involved
in wetland management and/or wastewater treatment. They
may be working in organisations responsible for water
treatment or responsible for wetland conservation/sustainable
use of wetlands. The target group is also those who
have an interest in onsite wastewater treatment for
small communities.
The starting date is
March 3, 2008 and the deadline for application is March
1.
Course fee: Euro 550,-
only!
Study load will be roughly one day per
week during 3 months, and you can schedule your own
study time!!!!
