Lydia ter Beek joined UNESCO-IHE in 2003 at the Student Affairs department, where she is still happily working. This year she had her 12.5 years anniversary.
What many people don't know is that Lydia ter Beek won 6 gold medals and 1 silver medal in swimming at the 1976 Summer Paralympics in Toronto. She completed all the personal distances and two relays. Lydia still practises swimming every Sunday at 9 o’clock. With a team (friends of her) she trains a lot, not for competitions, but to keep fit and she manages to swim 2.5 kilometres in one hour.
Lydia likes the variety of people and the influence of different cultures and nationalities “I am in a nice team and there is always a variety of things to do at any particular period, for example the arrival of new students or student graduation. The main task is to correctly administer students’ records, admission criteria, scholarships, visas, IND and other administrative tasks. We have to be masters at multitasking.”
