The overall objective of the project is to enhance the ability of the core parties in the Middle East (Jordan, Israel, Palestine Authority) to quantify problems related to waste water re-use and identify measures to be taken to ameliorate the situation.
The project is one of a group of projects under the Water Data Banks Implementation Plan coordinated by the Executive Action Team (EXACT) of the Middle East.
The project is fitting in the framework of the Middle East peace process, where the Executive Action Team (EXACT) is coordinating the recommendations of the Middle East Multilateral Working group on Water Resources.
One of the core recommendations of the working group is to establish regional water databanks to improve the data availability and information exchange among water managers and the core parties involved. Exact has been established to support that objective under an agreed regional implementation plan, which is financed by the EU since 1995.
The specific objectives of the project are to implement the extension of decision support systems for waste water re-use; a water quality base line survey report identifying the overall impact of waste water pollution in the project area; trained local staff in the field of water quality monitoring, data processing and storage and interpretation of field data for management decisions.
The key issue of the project is focus on improved water treatments and re-use for water managers, planners and operators through development of hydrometric water quality databases and DSS facilities.
A baseline study is to be implemented to provide a clear and comprehensive overview of waste water re-use practices and potentials including seasonal fluctuations of discharges and hydrological conditions of the discharge areas (mainly wadis).
